Matthew M. Proudfoot
Matthew M. Proudfoot is a founding partner in our Irvine office. His practice focuses on the defense of cases involving breach of warranty/products liability, Business & Professions Code Section 17200, Consumer Legal Remedies Act and other consumer litigation. Mr. Proudfoot is licensed to practice in the State of California and United States District Courts, and is a member of ABOTA, The American Board of Trial Advocates.
Warranty Defense Litigation: Matt specializes in breach of warranty litigation and has over 25 years of experience representing automobile and RV manufacturers and dealerships throughout California, including Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford Motor Company, and Tiffin Motorhomes. He and partner Douglas Guy served as trial counsel in Gavaldon v. DaimlerChrysler Corp. (2004) 32 Cal.4th 1246, a landmark California Supreme Court decision holding that service contracts are not express warranties under the Song-Beverly Act.
Business Litigation & Employment Defense: Matt represents manufacturers, dealers, and small businesses in employment, contract, and premises liability matters, including claims for discrimination and wrongful termination. He also advises manufacturers on early claims resolution programs to reduce litigation risk and cost.
Mediation: Matt is trained in mediating litigated cases through Pepperdine University’s Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution and regularly serves as a mediator in consumer and personal injury matters.
